We love raising butterflies it’s such an amazing experience. We do it every year. They are tiny caterpillars when they come and when they become butterflies it is such an incredible thing to be a part of.

It is a family tradition going on 14 years! We love watching are caterpillars grow and releasing them in our butterfly garden. We have had years of success. We started with one cup and now get four!

We have ordered caterpillar refills many times - and again we were thrilled with the results. All 20 of our caterpillars became beautiful butterflies and were happy to be released into our garden.

    These were outstanding specimens!
I will be using Insect Lore every year from now on. I have been using Carolina Biological Supply for the past 10 years and every year the quality has declined and it was a headache to prepare the lids once the chrysalises were formed. Insect Lore's cups were bigger, the lining on the vented cup lid was genius, and 19 of the 20 caterpillars emerged as butterflies. Thank you for helping my K'ers to fully engage in the metamorphosis process. They enjoyed it immensely and I'll be back next spring!

I have so much fun raising and releasing my butterflies every year. This year was no exception! The cups arrived in good shape with plenty of food for the little caterpillars, and they grew well. Out of 20 caterpillars, only one died before reaching chrysalis stage. One more did not emerge. I was excited to release 18 happy and healthy butterflies at the end. This is the first time I had any not survive until release after doing this for 4 years, so I am not upset at all. I think that's a very good record! Love watching the beautiful butterflies take off, and I've even added some of their host plants outside in hopes of getting a second generation.

    I had an incredible experience

I had an incredible experience with my InsectLore Painted Lady Butterflies. Back in May I ordered 5 caterpillars and they successfully pupated and grew into healthy adult butterflies. I released them eventually into my garden. Then in June I ordered 20 caterpillars! I made a huge enclosure for them and slowly released them into my garden and I’m down to 3 left inside the enclosure. With the 20, unfortunately I had 3 that did not hatch from their pupating stage, most likely have passed away, I have placed them in the garden under/ against a leaf just in case (but it’s been like 2-3 weeks now in the chrysalis stage) . All in all this experience was amazing, connected me with nature but also science and has peaked my interest towards entomology. Will definitely come back for more winged friends! :butterfly::green_heart:

I ordered the cups of caterpillars and they shipped the next day. However, I did not receive them for 3 weeks! During that time I reached out to Insect Lore will concerns that even if the caterpillars arrived that they would likely be damaged or, at the very least, have gone through the majority of the life cycle process I was planning on exploring with my students. The representative was not helpful. When I finally received the caterpillars, they were already in the chrysalis stage and were stuck in a giant ball of food and waste. It was utterly disgusting. My coworkers and I carefully extracted the chrysalises from the brown wad on a Friday afternoon. By Monday, several of the butterflies were already hatched - many with damaged wings. Some of them outright died. This was a terrible non-experience for my students. It's sad because this is generally a highlight of the year for them and me. I will not be ordering from Insect Lore again.
