We had a positive experience

We had a positive experience with receiving our live ants! Almost all of them were alive except 2 which was actually really good! We were so happy to see them immediately start digging! It was my favorite live animal experience with insect lore! We’ve done the butterflies and lady bugs as well which were great, but the ants are so interesting to watch work so hard!

Great fun and learning experience

My son has been obsessed with ants and asked for an ant farm for Christmas. We waited to order until February so the weather wouldn’t be too cold (we’re in Florida) All ants were alive except one. We followed directions, put in fridge 10min and they went right into the habitat. We still have about half of them left after 5 1/2 weeks and they are doing great! They are actually in our kitchen and everyone enjoys sitting and watching them.
I have done the caterpillars with my class but I wouldn’t bring these in my class of young children because they are very large and can bite. For middle or high school age this would be perfect.

Excellent Customer Service and Products! TEN STARS!

All ants were alive and well when they came in! I cannot say enough good things about Insect Lore and their excellent customer service. If I could give it 10 stars I would! We will definitely be ordering from here again in the future!

The actual worst. I ordered 4 tubes of ants and two of them came with only 2 or 3 surviving ants. Give disappointment for my class. IDK if that's to be expected but I didn't expect it for sure

My Ants!!

All of my ants(two tubes) arrived alive. This is the second time ordered from here, the first time I ordered caterpillars, they arrived in great condition as well. Thank you insect lore for being such a good company and never disappointing.

Good portion of ants were dead upon arrival and many continued to die after. After about 3 weeks im down to 6 ants and they've hardly tunneled

Hi Nicole,

Thank you for the review. I’m really sorry to hear that many of your ants arrived in poor condition and that more continued to decline over the past few weeks. I can understand how disappointing this must be, especially when tunneling hasn’t progressed the way it normally should.

For future setups, giving the ants a little head start can help encourage tunneling. After your ants arrive, placing the ant tubes in the refrigerator for about 10–15 minutes will safely slow them down. While they’re cooling, you can use the sand rod to create a starter tunnel about three inches down in the back of the habitat. Once the ants are ready, gently tap them into the Ant Mountain and close the lid right away. They may seem sluggish at first, but they usually begin exploring and tunneling once they settle in.

And just for the future, if you ever receive any live insects or supplies that don’t look quite right, feel free to reach out to us directly at our Insect Lore support email, customerservice@insectlore.com. Sending a quick photo of what you received helps us provide faster and more accurate assistance.

Kind Regards,
Hans

Update on our ants

We have had our ant farm since February and we still have 3 ants marching around in October!!
The kids have thoroughly enjoyed watching them and taking care of them! We did have two escapes over the 7 months we’ve had them; both our faults :0}~ we were able to get the ants trapped back in a tube and put them back in! Overall great experience and easy to care for.

Ant lifespan?

Harvester ants ordered through Amazon were delayed 4 days. After introducing to the Milton ant farm, they lasted just a few days. After 1 week 2 of 25 remained alive.

First tube we got ants

First tube we got ants died within 1 day of being in the hill. Contacted customer service and they sent one more tube. This tube was delayed multiple times through mail service. By the time we got them we had 3 left that were alive. After that we gave up. We homeschool and thought this would have been a perfect lesson but we never got to complete it.
