This year we did not have good luck with the class set of caterpillars. Most of the caterpillars could not form into their chrysalis. The new cups are not good, as the caterpillars cannot attach to the slippery lid. Very disappointed this year.

I believe this year’s kit had a greater metamorphosis success than past years. The kit said 33 but we had way more with about 45 completions to butterflies. We purchased a 10x10 screened popup that gives the students a great opportunity to see ,experience and interact with the butterflies. This is a yearly event my wife combines with her science curriculum. We pre order with a delivery date and everything shows up right on schedule. Thanks for making our yearly event successful.

Our 2nd grade team gives each student a caterpillar to take care of. It's such a fun and incredible experience.

It never fails! The kids absolutely love this activity and I’ve been doing it every year for about 15 years! It’s too bad it’s so expensive… as a teacher I find this activity myself… and it’s well worth it!
We ended up with 40 caterpillars total. Three died in the caterpillar stage and had a couple not e loose after becoming a chrysalis. We had several that were late to eclose but did well
My class loved watching the caterpillars change. We didn’t see any hatch to butterflies.
I am a Christian minister and a director of a faith based residential addiction recovery program with 21 men. I bought the butterfly kit to help the men understand Romans 12:2, which says in part "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." The Greek word for "transformed" is Metamorphosis. The caterpillar to butterfly transformation illustrates what Romans 12:2 means. Each member kept a cup of caterpillars on their nightstand

The whole class loved it! It was very easy to get the caterpillars in the cups and our pack came with a few extras which was especially nice to have as back ups in case any died.
I have never experienced this before, as every other purchase I have made from Insect Lore has been fantastic. This shipment gave me 26 caterpillars and what looked like mushed caterpillar carcasses. Out of the 26, only 3 turned into crysalids, and then became butterflies. It was heartbreaking.
Package arrived earlier than expected. The caterpillars were okay and had enough food. However, this year many butterflies could not open the wings.
Our caterpillars to butterflies turned out well. I think out of the whole set we had 2 of the caterpillars die before they became butterflies. Everything came out great! I used a plastic tie gun to attach all the lids to the netting of the habitat (w/ the
caterpillars on them) and they were great to watch all of them finish and start flying around. So great!!
Less than half survived
I love doing this, and plan on doing this next year, but the school kit is hard because there is no way to attach the chrysalides to the netting. We tried to use the little sticky velcro dots provided with the kit, but they all fell down. It would be great if there were another way to attach the chrysalides to the netting.
Our class was disappointed this year because only 1/3 of the 33 caterpillars became butterflies.
More than half of the caterpillars died. When they arrived they were smaller than usual. The classroom cups are too small. When they transform into chrysalis and hung from the top they fell into the food cup over the weekend and liquefied. I won't get the classroom kit again. I'd rather pay more and just stick with the big cups.
Our insects are sensitive to outdoor temperatures. We recommend ordering when daytime temperatures are below 90 degrees.
