The caterpillars arrived healthy and grew well. Instructions for care were clear and easy to follow. The class released 27 butterflies!

Great Experience for prek

The kit was shipped and arrived in a timely manner. The children enjoyed the whole experience thoroughly. It was easy to care for them as long as the instructions are followed. Although only 20 survived and were released as butterflies, it was enjoyable.

8 of the 32 caterpillars

8 of the 32 caterpillars were DOA. They were only about 1 mm long and seemed to have died early in their development. The kids still really enjoyed watching the other caterpillars develop.

Product was delivered safely. All contents were provided. It would be great if the filter paper was provided so they can attach. We will be buying coffee filters next year to accommodate.

This was a fantastic project!

This was a fantastic project! The children enjoyed watching the entire process with the culmination of letting the butterflies crawl on their fingers and finally releasing them to fly away into our garden

Many, significantly more than other

Many, significantly more than other years, of the caterpillars did not survive and make chrysalises. Of those that made a chrysalis many did not emerge. Out of the original container we had only 12 butterflies and several were deformed and could not fly.

Many of our caterpillars died

Many of our caterpillars died this year and the food started to look like it was rotting around day 6 of us having the caterpillars. More than half of the caterpillars did not survive and make a chrysalis. We do this every year and this is the first year that this has ever happened.

Love the smaller kits but

Love the smaller kits but wouldn’t do the school kit again. Caterpillars got way too big for their cups and barely any were able to attach to the lid due to it. Most just fell into the food

This was an exciting experience!

This was an exciting experience! My students had a blast learning about the life cycle of the butterfly and witnessing it first hand. 4 stars because one of the food refill kits came broken and soiled some of the other items in the package. Other than that, it was wonderful!

Not a good year!

I have used insect lore for years, and have often had great success. Unfortunately, this year, I am not certain what was wrong with the batch, but only four butterflies were able to fly away at release. Several of the caterpillars died before chrysalis. Several of the chrysalis turned black during the transition to butterflies, and nothing came out. Of the 10 butterflies that came out, six of them had one wing completely deformed and could not fly.

Unfortunately this is the 2nd

Unfortunately this is the 2nd year in a row where over 60% of our caterpillars did not make it to butterflies. Our school has been ordering from this site for over 10 years and never had a problem. The last two years have been very disappointing. Not sure if we will be ordering again.

We have always been so

We have always been so happy with insect lore school kits. When we had a problem last year, they immediately worked with us. This year we again had no problems and loved every minute of watching the caterpillars grow into butterflies and releasing them in our schools prayer garden. Thanks again for providing us with the marterials we needed.

Caterpillars no butterflies

I love this kit. The students were happy to have their own caterpillar. The problem was only a few turned into butterflies. This was disappointing to the students

Nice quality

The kit and supplies were very nice quality. However, only 2/3 of the larvae reached the butterfly stage.

Disappointing Batch

I’ve purchased this kit for over 15 years. This year several caterpillars died, several chrysalis were deformed , and several butterflies didn’t emerge properly. Not sure why this happened this year.

Not as good as past years

We have ordered the class kits for many years. However, this year we did not have a great result. When the caterpillar made the chrysalis, the silk button did not hold well to the lids and more than half of the pupas fell in the cup, some before the chrysalis was completely hardened. Some fell when they were transferred to the mesh habitat. In all four classes, we each had less than a third that made it to a complete adult butterfly that was able to fly. I'm not sure if it was because the lid was too smooth to hold or if there was a problem in the silk button formation.
