Ant Hill™ Harvester Ant Refill

Our ant, ladybug and caterpillar units are among the most exciting in my class of 3-year-olds. That is why it was so devastating when a plague (likely caused by bad sand on our end) wiped out all of the ants in our anthill within 24 hours. The kiddos were upset, and sadness reigned. Thank goodness for Nick at Insect Lore, who replaced our tunnelers with no qualms, and provided fresh sand for us to use. Hooray! Nick saved the day, and my little entomologists were delighted. We love Insect Lore!

After talking about insects in science this was the perfect observation to bring our lessons to life!

I received my order that had only 3 ants that were alive. Received replacement ants and they were no better will not order these again. Which it to bad i have always had good luck with the butterflies

Many of our ants died within the first week. There are 6 ants remaining! It has been very fun to watch them. We just wish they had lived longer.

All the ants died within 1 week. They looked really bad from the beginning and only half made it through the first night. The ones that did survive didn't dig tunnels or anything.

We ordered ants and other insects a few times. I think this was our last time ordering ants. They were all not very active right away and most died within a week even though we followed instructions with food and water for them. They didn’t make any tunnels like on picture. Just kind of threw some sand around. One little guy survived for few weeks but it was very sad to see him alone and miserable. I think butterflies and lady bugs are better because it is such a joy to release them to freedom vs watching ants die in enclosed space one by one.

Twice now we have attempted to keep these ants alive to no avail. :( I'm following all of the instructions, but they just all slowly die off.

I have ordered from Insect Lore for many years. I have always had good luck! This year I once again ordered ants. They lived just one day and then started to die. Within 3 days they were all dead. I took care of them just like I always have. I don't know what happened. My grandkids were so disappointed.

It was weird. I got them before and they lasted for months, but these only made it a couple of weeks. I'm not sure what I could have done differently.

I followed the directions. But the whole colony died. The two ants buried all the other ants.

Since this was a refill order, it would have been helpful to have the startup instructions come with it as we hadn't hosted ants for a year and had forgotten the instructions about adding 3/4 cup of water to the sand before putting the ants in. Our ants did not do as well because of this error, and we feel badly that we were not as good of ant caretakers as we could have been. Including the setup instructions could have helped us avoid this mistake.

We havechad a great time watching our ants work in their home. And I love how easy it has been.

I'm so glad Insect Lore is offering Ant Mountain refills! It was so nice to be able to reuse my Ant Mountain and start this process all over again. My 7 year old is obsessed.
