AMAZINGGGG up close and personal. I've been ordering these for my classroom for over 20 years. Now it's time for the grandchildren and they were awesome for the grand girls that are four, four and 3 1/2.

My kids LOVE watching the

My kids LOVE watching the insects tunnel, wiggle, and climb. We compare the ladybugs & butterflies, and discuss why the ants do what they do. This is our 6th year of Insect Lore and they’re still mesmerized by them. More addicting than TV.

We enjoyed watching our caterpillars

We enjoyed watching our caterpillars turn into butterflies and all five of them survived. We also learned about the life cycle of lady bugs and had a small ant farm. We really enjoyed releasing them outdoors only for them to come and land back on many of the students.

LOVED THEM

Box arrived today (late, was supposed to arrive yesterday) severely damaged with parts of the box “punched” in and insides (to include live insects) exposed. I was surprised and a little disappointed to see that the external packaging was marked perishable instead of live - maybe it would have been handled better through delivery? Instructions for the ants state there should be two tubes of ants, but only one was included. The flower seeds were open and the packets empty, the seeds emptied out all over the external packaging as well as spilled outside. We’re hoping that the insects and the housing themselves works great in spite of all this (minus we only have one tube of ants instead of two) but the delivery conditions and missing items are why some stars were knocked off. May update rating depending on how the rest turns out.

The ants are disappointing

The ants did not tunnel. They excavated a lot of sand out of where it belongs and out to the other side, so there was one big empty space. A week or so later, all but 3 of them suddenly died.
The butterflies are cool. This is our second time doing the butterfly kit. The ladybugs are still doing their thing. I'll either get a different kit for the ants next time, or just forget about it all together.

Caterpillars and ladybugs matured as

Caterpillars and ladybugs matured as expected, joyous same-day release of adults. Ant farm failed to entertain; ants crawl over the top and fall down the other side to die and shrivel, nobody dug any tunnels.

My eight-year-old granddaughter was thrilled

My eight-year-old granddaughter was thrilled at the prospect of observing these insects and journaling about them. And the caterpillars were a success; she was excited watching them grow, cocoon, and transform into butterflies, and sad to release them. The ladybugs, in contrast, dried out and died. Not sure if she was at fault or if they were just very fragile. And the ants built amazing tunnels, but she was bitten by one, and the bite was painful for hours.

This is our second kit.

This is our second kit. Well received by our granddaughter. The ladybug world worked flawlessly, as did the butterfly enclosure. Consider reconfiguring the Ant Habitat. The inside is so steep, the ants kept falling down. I inserted paper strips to give them a ladder to climb. Thanks!

The students in my preschool

The students in my preschool classroom loved this experience. We released the butterflies and lady bugs. I gave one student the ant house and 1 student the lady bug habitat after. They all loved it.

Bought this for my granddaughters

Bought this for my granddaughters 4th birthday. She has had a blast watching them all develop. Just this week she got to see the butterflies hatch and set them free in her garden. Next up for freedom is the ladybugs. I would definitely buy again!

A Lesson in Nature

The ants were fascinating and the butterflies were a special treat, although the fast action by a little junco was a fierce lesson in natural processes. Best birthday present ever.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience with this! It was fun to have them all going at simultaneously! Such a wonder to watch the magnificence of Gods creation!
