Butterfly Legs

Take a stunning up-close look at a pair of butterfly legs! These tiny grasping "feet" aren't just useful for hanging onto surfaces - they're sensory powerhouses that help the butterfly detect the perfect plant food sources, for themselves as well as their caterpillar offspring! A female butterfly will often choose to land on a leaf and softly "drum" the surface of the plant with her legs. She does this to ensure that the leaf will be suitable food for her caterpillars once she finally lays her eggs!
