Whoa! Imagine seeing one (or several) of these piercing eyes watching you from the shadows! Good thing that it's no real eye at all: rather, it's an "eyespot" on a Giant Owl butterfly's wing! Eyespots are one of the most fascinating examples of butterfly mimicry because they capture the color and lighting of a real animal's eye so well. With these eyespots butterflies are able to scare off predators such as birds, who are tricked into thinking the butterfly is a much larger animal! It seems that when it comes to butterflies, there's more than meets the eye!
