Thank You

My preschool class loves this activity! I have been doing the live caterpillars every spring for many years, and it is enjoyable for my students and myself included. What an awesome way for children to learn the concept of metamorphysis! Thank you Insect Lore.

17th annual church wide butterfly release

We have been ordering painted lady larvae from Insect Lore for 17 years! We get 3 classpaks, which always totals at least 99 larvae! The children at our church prepare them for their journey to new life, and we watch them develop. Three weeks later (it takes 17-21 days for metamorphosis) we gather as a church family in our courtyard to pray a blessing over the butterflies and release them. The children coax them onto orange slices to observe them before they fly off. We started releasing them before Easter, but chilly weather sometimes made it iffy, so we switched to Mother's Day, and now we have released them on Pentecost the past few years. Everyone has come to enjoy this annual tradition, to symbolize resurrection and "new life" (in Jesus)!

It's a great learning experience!

We purchase several cups of caterpillars every year at our daycare center. The children love to watch them and we release them when they become butterflies.
